These terms cover your use of What’s in the Book? at whatsinthebook.app, operated by Rebecca Bradshaw Palmer as a sole proprietorship (“we,” “us”). By using the site you agree to them. If you don’t, please don’t use it.
We publish informational content labels for books — an at-a-glance summary of things like language, violence, romantic and sexual content, scary content, and themes — so you can decide whether a particular book is a good fit for a particular reader.
This is decision support, not censorship. We don’t rate books as good or bad, and we don’t tell anyone what to read. We describe what’s in a book and leave the judgment where it belongs — with you.
Our labels are compiled from publicly available information about each book. We work hard to get them right, and we’re always improving them — but no summary of a book can capture everything, and reasonable people draw the line in different places. A label marked “no reports” means we didn’t find anything on that topic, which isn’t quite the same as confirming there’s nothing there.
Think of the labels as a well-researched starting point rather than the last word. They’re provided as-is, without a guarantee of accuracy or completeness, and the final call about what’s right for a particular reader is always yours. If you come across something we’ve missed or gotten wrong, please tell us — there’s a report link on every book, and that feedback is genuinely how this gets better.
You need to be at least 13 to use the site. If you’re between 13 and 17, please use it with a parent’s knowledge. You must be 18 or older to buy a membership.

A portion of the site is free to use. Free use may be subject to limits, and those limits can change. Memberships unlock higher limits and additional features.
Where memberships are offered:
The site, its design, and the content labels and summaries we produce belong to us. Your membership is permission to use them, not ownership of them.
Book titles, cover images, author names and any quoted review material belong to their respective owners, and appear here for identification and commentary.
Anything you send us — feedback, a content report, a correction — we can use to run and improve the service, including in aggregate or anonymized form.
We’ll try to keep the site up and working, but we don’t promise it will always be available, fast, or error-free. Features can change or be removed. We may need to take it offline for maintenance.
The service is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement.
To the fullest extent the law allows, we aren’t liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits or data, arising out of your use of the service — including any decision made in reliance on a content label. To the fullest extent the law allows, our total liability for any claim relating to the service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or twenty-five US dollars.
Some jurisdictions don’t allow certain limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
You can stop using the site any time, and cancel a membership any time. We can suspend or end access if these terms are broken, or if we stop offering the service. If we end your membership without cause, we’ll refund the unused portion.
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Ventura County, California, and we each agree to those courts’ jurisdiction.
We may update these terms. We’ll change the date at the top, and for significant changes we’ll say so in the app. Continuing to use the site after a change means the updated terms apply.
